In order to obtain a degree from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Basel, a minimum number of credit points must be earned within the subjects or degree program at the University of Basel. However, this is accompanied by a limit on the number of credits that can be transferred from other courses.
Maximum number of credits
- Bachelor's degree: A maximum of 30 CP per subject and a maximum of 60 CP per degree program can be recognized for externally earned credits. In addition, the CPs can be recognized to fulfill the free elective area. 30 CP are required to fulfill the free elective area. The credit points for the seminar papers and Bachelor's examinations that count towards the degree must be acquired at the University of Basel. - Master's degree program: A maximum of 20 CP per subject and a maximum of 40 CP per degree program can be recognized for work completed externally. In addition, all 20 CPs required to fulfill the free elective area can be recognized. The credit points for the Master's thesis (30 CP) and those for the Master's examinations (10 CP) must be acquired at the University of Basel.
