Dean

Prof. Dr. Martin Lengwiler has been Dean of the Faculty of Humanities since spring semester 2022. He was elected for the term of office from spring semester 2022 to spring semester 2025 and is Professor of History.

The Dean bears general responsibility for the tasks of the Faculty. He chairs the meetings of the Faculty Assembly, the Faculty Board, the Dean's Office and the Evaluation and Promotion Committee.

The tasks of the Dean include in particular

  • the preparation of strategic business,
  • representing the Faculty in the Senate, the President's Conference and the Quality Commission,
  • maintaining contact with the deans of the other faculties,
  • participating in the appointment interviews for professors of the faculty,
  • regularly informing the Faculty Board about the business pending in the Faculty Assembly and
  • communicating with the public, politicians and the media about faculty business.

Staff unit & secretariat

The academic staff member supports the Dean in his business, particularly in the areas of evaluations, appointment procedures, projects and communication.

The Secretariat provides administrative support to the Dean, particularly in the areas of the Faculty Assembly, applications for research semesters, inaugural and habilitation lectures and Dies academicus.
