At the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, you have the opportunity to pursue your personal interests and choose from a range of courses to suit your abilities. You can choose between a good 20 courses in the BA and almost 40 in the MA; the range includes subjects in the humanities and cultural studies as well as social sciences and linguistics and literary studies.
Our degree courses are fundamentally interdisciplinary, whether through the combination of two subjects or in one of the integrated degree courses, which are already interdisciplinary. In addition, all of our courses also offer you the opportunity to create your own profile, from the combination of subjects and specializations in these subjects to the free elective areas, which are generously endowed with 30 points in the BA and 20 points in the MA.
The courses offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are designed to combine the development and discussion of current issues with the examination of scientific theories in their historical depth and with current research methods. In addition to a solid specialist education, you will also acquire methodological skills in areas such as research, conceptualization and textualization of content or oral presentation, which will qualify you for many professional fields.
The cultural environment, excellent libraries, important archives and museums offer a stimulating intellectual milieu. Not to be underestimated is also the unique ambience of many seminars, which are located in historic buildings in the old town.
