Bachelor examination & graduation

Deadlines and dates for the Bachelor's studies

Students who have earned 60 CP in the subject to be examined or 120 CP in the degree program and have completed the seminar papers that count towards the degree in the subject to be examined or in the degree program may register for the Bachelor's examination. Proof is provided by submitting the module assignment.

Only one subject per session can now be examined. This means that the two Bachelor's examinations can be spread over two sessions (note: only for subjects - it is not possible to separate the two examinations for degree programs).

BA examinations: Due to the free availability of AI text generators (such as ChatGPT), the Faculty of Phil.-Hist. has decided to adapt the way in which the BA examination is conducted. This adjustment is intended to ensure that students are able to do their own work. From spring semester 2023, the BA examinations will once again be written in the university rooms under supervision. These will be digital "bring-your-own-device" examinations. The examination dates remain unchanged.

Please note the updated information sheet on the procedure for BA examinations and the new registration form (subject, degree program). If you have any questions, please contact the Student Administration.

Diplomas from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Basel

The diplomas awarded by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Basel consist of the following three parts: The certificate shows the academic degree awarded and the degree predicate; the transcript lists the academic achievements in detail. The Diploma Supplement describes the completed course of study in general terms and provides an overview of the Swiss education system. Examples of the diploma documents can be found here.

Confirmation/certification of diplomas

Confirmation of copies of diplomas can be obtained from the Student Administration on presentation of the original documents. Certification must be requested from a notary or the State Chancellery; the Student Administration is not permitted to issue certifications. Certification means that not only the conformity of the copy and the original document is confirmed, but also the accuracy of the original diploma (e.g. verification of the signatory's authorization to sign)

Translations

Translations can neither be made nor confirmed by the Student Administration. Translations must be obtained from translation services that are authorized to produce notarized translations.

Application for the issue of the final documents

Students can apply for the issue of graduation documents if all coursework has been completed in accordance with the respective study plans and guidelines for the subjects or degree program. The application for the issuance of graduation documents must be submitted by e-mail (please use your unibas e-mail address!) to bachelorabschluss-philhist@unibas.ch or via the Phil app https://philhist.unibas.ch/de/app/ within the specified deadline. Please refer to the table above for the application deadlines. If the application deadline cannot be met, please contact the Student Administration Office well in advance of the application deadline.

Detailed information on the graduation application process and the application for transfer to the Master's degree program as well as the module allocation process can be found in the following documents:

Degree from another university with a foreign subject at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Graduates who complete only one subject at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences visiting students submit the application for a certificate to the Student Administration in the same way as all other students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Bachelor of Science in Sports Science with a second subject at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Sports students who are studying their second subject at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences submit the application for graduation to the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health. The module allocation for the subject at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences must be adjusted as indicated in the faculty's information sheets. Please also consult the information sheet Bachelor's degree in Sports Science with a second subject at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
