Office of the Dean of Studies
The Dean of Studies Prof. Dr. Matthias Schmidt, Professor of Musicology, has been Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences since spring semester 2022.
Under the direction of the Dean of Studies, the Office of the Dean of Studies is responsible for all teaching matters together with the Student Administration. The Office of the Dean of Studies oversees and develops the strategic orientation of the curricula and courses on offer as well as quality assurance in teaching, while the Office of Student Administration deals with the administrative aspects of training at BA, MA and doctorate level.
The Dean of Studies heads the Examination Commission, provides regular information on its decisions and coordinates the work of the teaching committees.
The tasks of the Dean of Studies include in particular
- representing the faculty in the Teaching Committee and in the Continuing Education Committee,
- supervising and coordinating the courses offered by the faculty,
- supervision of the BA and MA examinations and
- the examination of applications relating to teaching,
- responsibility for the further development and quality assurance of teaching and the curricula and courses offered.
Staff unit
The academic staff member supports the Dean of Studies in the operational implementation of his business and is the contact person for all questions relating to the subjects of curriculum development and quality assurance in teaching.
