«Temporality, Narrativity, and the Anthropocene»

Workshop: New Developments in Theory; Prof. Dr. Elana Gomel, Tel Aviv University

The first part of this workshop led by Prof. Gomel serves as a forum to discuss her recent work on the relation of time and narrative in our Anthropocene moment, with a particular emphasis on what she and her co-author Vered Karti Shemtov call limboto-pia (in distinction to utopia and dystopia). In order to facilitate discussion, participants will read their recently published article on the topic and chapter two of Frank Ker-mode’s classic The Sense of an Ending prior to the meeting.
The second part of the workshop is dedicated to the part icipants’ research projects: Participants will have the op portunity briefly to introduce their current research project in order to receive feedback from both Prof. Gomel and their peers.
The workshop is complemented with two guest lectures by Prof. Elana Gomel and Prof. Marco Caracciolo on the following day (see separate announcement).
Elana Gomel is Associate Professor at the Department of English and American Stud-ies at Tel Aviv University. She is the author of six non-fiction books and numerous arti-cles on subjects such as narrative theory, posthumanism, science fiction, Dickens, and Victorian culture.
